FLYING HIGH: Dutch artist Kyteman performs at last year's North Sea Jazz Festival

Our travel expert answers queries on routes and destinations around the world

After the music

In July, a friend and I are going to the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. Can you help us find reasonable accommodation in the city from July 6-8? - Itumeleng Legae

If you check (www.northseajazz.com) you will find a list of accommodation options.

One of these is the Stayokay Rotterdam Cube Hostel, where the cost of shared accommodation starts at about 25 euros (about R255) per person per night (www.stayokay.com).

Another popular option is Sleep-in De Mafkees, which offers dormitory-style accommodation, a hot shower and breakfast for 10 euros (R102) per day.

You need to bring your own sleeping bag (www.sleepin.nl). If those are full, you can also try www.northseajazzhotels.com, which has a listing of hotels available at a three-day package rate if you buy at least one three-day ticket to the festival.

For example, a double room at the three-star Eurohotel Centrum Rotterdam costs 443 euros (R4528) for three nights including breakfast and wi-fi.

That's roughly R750 per person per night. You could also try discount websites, but you need to book as soon as possible. Among the hotels still on offer on www.booking.com when I checked were the three-star Grand Hotel Central at 363 euros (R3712) for a double room for the three nights and the four-star Novotel Rotterdam Brainpark at 393 euros (R4018) for three nights.
