The White House says President Barack Obama will speak later this month at the unveiling of the new Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington.
The new memorial to the civil rights leader sits on the National Mall near the Tidal Basin, between monuments honouring Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson.
Obama will speak on 28 August. The official website for the memorial says the president will be part of a ceremony capping a week of events in tribute to King, the civil rights leader who worked to end discrimination against African-Americans until his assassination in 1968.
