Austrialian police from the city of Darwin were mistaken for strippers by a group of women celebrating an upcoming wedding.

The police were there to investigate reports of a bar-room brawl.

"The girls were in fine form and they nearly had their shirts taken off but they managed to escape with their dignity intact," Senior Sergeant Louise Jorgensen told the Northern Territory News on Friday.

Northern Territory Police said no charges would be laid in connection with Thursday night's incident.
