Reverend Andrew Cain has gotten married to his partner of 14 years, an atheist named Stephen Foreshew.

According to an interview with the BBC, he found the service "surprisingly moving" - as he got married in the Maidenhead registry office.

Cain said that Foreshew had grown increasingly impatient with the Anglican Church's refusal to recognise gay marriage.

"He works in IT, where people are recognised for what they do, not who they are," Cain said.

Cain is the second reverend to defy Anglican rules regarding same-sex marriage.

The first was Canon Jeremy Pemberton, who was recently stripped of his of his right to officiate as a priest in Nottinghamshire after he married his long term partner in April.

According to The Guardian, Cain is unlikely to face similar sanctions.

He holds his job by traditional freehold, which means it is almost impossible to dismiss him for doctrinal differences.
