Police in northeastern China have detained a man accused of cutting off the testicles of three patients in a nursing home.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday that two of the patients at the home in Qinggang County in Heilongjiang province were bedridden and the third was mentally handicapped.

It said the man tied them up Tuesday and used a dull razor to castrate them.

Xinhua said the man was an employee but a staff member at the home contacted by telephone said he was a patient.

A man who answered the phone at the county police department confirmed one victim lost both testicles and the other two lost one each. He said the suspect was under police interrogation.
