Two people are dead after a 'domestic' dispute in a Durban shopping mall turned deadly.

A man, believed to be a policeman, shot himself and his girlfriend at Durban's Pavilion shopping centre.

The couple were in their twenties.

"It was a domestic dispute," Captain Thulani Zwane said. "At this stage I do not have any more details."

The centre's management said the shooting occurred a short while ago and involved a married couple at one of the retail stores.

It could not disclose the extent of the injuries or the number of people shot.
