A college professor has been brutally beheaded by her mentally-ill son, who left her body in the middle of the street before taking his own life by jumping in front of a train.

According to NBC news the decapitated body of Patricia Ward, a 66-year-old associate professor of language arts at Farmingdale State College, was found outside her complex by neighbours and onlookers who thought it was a Halloween prank.

She had broken ribs and had been stabbed repeatedly; her head was found 5 feet from where her body lay in the street.

Horrified onlookers told the New York Post they were traumatised by the incident and said they may need therapy as a result of seeing a beheaded body on the street.

A cab driver said he “got sick” after seeing the woman’s disembodied head and quickly sped away.

“One guy said he needs therapy now,” said the dispatcher, who declined to give his name. “They said it was one of the most disgusting things they’d ever seen.”
