A new contender has captured imaginations in the run for US president – Deez Nuts, a 15-year old boy who is the current leading independent candidate.

According to Public Policy Polling Nuts is polling at about 7% in Iowa – which isn’t bad considering that current Republican front runner Donald Trump polls at about 21% as an Independent.

15-year-old Brady C Olson decided to run as Deez Nuts because he wasn’t satisfied with the current front runners in the American electoral race.

According to his campaign website, his platform is secular, pro American business and anti illegal immigration.

With regards to foreign policy he has this to say:

“I support the work that John Kerry and the State Department did with the Iran nuclear deal, considering it took nearly two years to reach this point. Everyone wants a better deal, but that's the whole point of negotiating. Look at your wants, then their wants, and meet in the middle. Now is the time being respected instead of feared by other nations. I also feel that we need to stop being a world watchdog and limit our positions in international conflicts.”

He also expressed strong views on giving America’s territories right to representation in America's government, saying:

"I support giving citizens in our American territories voting rights. I also support giving American Samoan citizens automatic US citizenship. I would give Puerto Rico 3 electoral votes since Puerto Rico is bigger than many states. Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Marianas all get 2 since they are smaller, but still incorporated territories. Finally, American Samoa would only get 1 since it is still considered an "unincorporated" territory. This would bring the total of electoral votes from 538 to 548. I also support giving all 5 territories plus Washington, D.C. 1 seat in the House of Representatives instead of non-voting delegates. This would bring seats in the House from 435 to 441."

Rolling Stone interviewed Nuts following his entry into the field.

When asked what qualified him for the presidency, Nuts answered drily:

“The fact that if I can fill out a form so vague that it doesn't include your age, or the fact that all get accepted even if they're only partially filled, anyone can run.”

The magazine asked him what he had to offer over Trump, receiving this response: “Because I'm young and I think I have fresher ideas because whatever decisions I make would have longer effects on me.”

As to how far he is willing to take the joke?

“As far as America wants to take it.”
