Finding a long-term solution for the financial woes of the SABC, which along with other state-owned enterprises such as Eskom and SAA hangs like an albatross around the neck of the public purse, may involve selling some of its real estate assets. A cleanup of the state broadcaster's asset registry, including property it owns in London, is under way. Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo said: "What do we need a building in London for?" She said the SABC also owned a farm, which she considered non-core. The value of the assets now being considered for disposal has yet to be assessed. Talking without understanding The cash-strapped public broadcaster has requested a R3-billion guarantee from the National Treasury to allow it to borrow in the market.
