It was a night of glitz, glamour and laughs at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday as some of the country's most famous faces came together for the DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards.

The awards celebrated stars from the screen, sport and music industries with awards from Favourite DJ to Favourite Sports Personality and the Ultimate Viewers Choice Award.

But the best moments weren't just on stage.

Here are five moments from the awards that gave us life.

Nomzamo wows

Walking into the hall, there was a hive of activity near the stairs. Nomzamo Mbatha stood on an upper step with the poise of a queen while photographers surrounded her and snapped away. It may still be open to debate on whether she had the best dress of the night, but she certainly made the biggest impact.

Skolopad nearly misses the show

The socialite has been silent since a fatal car crash in September, but planned to make a comeback on the DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards red carpet. Unfortunately, logistics let her down and she was left outside the event while everyone was heading into the hall living their best lives. She eventually got in, with crutches and minus a few grapes.

Somizi and Evodia light up the stage

Somizi's brief cameo at the DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards proved that he's still on top of his game. He took to the stage at one point to take his shot at Boom Shaka Fame and sing for the group's Thembi Seete. It was hilarious.

Real Housewives of Johannesburg star Evodia Mogase also took the stage to present an award and had audiences in stitches. Presenting the prize for Favourite Radio Personality, she claimed that some of the nominees had been throwing shade at her and responded with her catchphrase: "What a joke".

Halala Ma Rebecca Malope

The awards took a break from the music and prizes to honour Dr Rebecca Malope for her contribution to the industry. Tributes began with some performances, before Ma Ribs took to the stage to sing and give a short speech. She couldn't hold back the tears as she was honoured with a standing ovation.

Sis Patty is leadership

Actress Thembsie Matu won the Favourite Actress award and was ushered onto stage amidst screams of "Petronella" (her character on The Queen) and "Thembsie". She repeated the trick a few minutes later, scooping the biggest prize of the night: The Ultimate Viewer's Choice Award.

She was overcome with emotion, before finally managing to get a few words in.

Queen B rules

Host Bonang Matheba not only led the show from the front, but also won the Favourite Personality of the Year award.

But it was her collection of dresses through the night that kept everyone mesmerised.
