Showmax has cleared the air on why three of its The Real Housewives of Durban stars are not returning in the latest season of the popular series.

Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku, Nonkanyiso LaConco and Londie London shot to the top of the Twitter trends list after tweeps noticed they were not in the picture of the newly announced cast.

Fans of the show were shocked and started sharing theories on why the women were not coming back.

Showmax told TshisaLIVE the trio have other gigs.

“Londie is now based in Johannesburg while MaKhumalo and LaConco have new hosting gigs on Mzansi Wethu's new reality series Ezomshado and Mzansi Magic's Our Perfect Wedding respectively.

“We're grateful for everything they brought to the show but are delighted with the mix of old and new faces this season, which is going to be a cracker,” reality and entertainment local channels senior manager Lerato Moruti said.

Cast members Annie Mthembu, Jojo Robinson, Nonku Williams and Sorisha Naidoo will be joined by new members Maria Valaskatzis, Mbali Ngiba and Slindile Wendy Ndlovu.

The Real Housewives of Durban Season 3 starts on Showmax from on February 1 with new episodes every Friday.

Mbali is a musician and actress and co-founder of African Centric Designs.

“I joined Season 3 as it felt like a great opportunity for me to be a part of such a successful franchise among such amazing women. When watching Season 1 and 2, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I’d also add great value as a cast member.

“So when they approached me I agreed. I also joined because I’d like to see some personal growth within myself as an individual and as a business,” she said.

Maria is a television presenter, producer and writer. She is the director of media and communications agency MV Consulting and co-owner of video production company VKATZPK Media.

“The Real Housewives of Durban is such an amazing platform where women can showcase their personalities and talents. The show consists of cast members who have strong personalities and my personality will help balance the various types of energies we all have. The decision to join is also rooted in my activism for women empowerment and mental health. So I believe by having this cohesion with the other six ladies we can use this platform to make change and inspire other women,” Maria said.

Slindile is a human resources consultant with experience in events management and interior designing. She is also the founder of events management company Mawesi Consulting.

“I echo my cast members’ sentiments about the opportunities The Real Housewives of Durban presents for all of us, and especially for our overall personal growth. For me, this is an avenue to start all over and rebuild, not only as an individual but also as a single mother.

“I come from a six-year relationship which I feel I wasted my time and energy in. I gave it my all, so when that didn’t work out I thought, ‘Why not? Let me try this’. This platform grants you the chance to promote and rebrand, especially when you’re coming from a place of starting over again,” Slindile said.
