Johan de Villiers, a member of the African-European Indaba, earlier this week approached a Dutch restaurant in the Netherlands to appeal a scheduled appearance by Hofmeyr.

The restaurant cancelled the appearance, which angered the controversial Afrikaans singer. "To call me a ‘racist’ or ‘far right’ is a cheap shot and simply a temporary way to prevent freedom of speech and to get a few people excited," he wrote on his Facebook page.

  • I will not be silenced anywhere, says Steve HofmeyrControversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr is hogging headlines once again, after it emerged that a restaurant in the Netherlands has cancelled an appearance by him over his political opinions.

But the drama didn't end there. De Villiers on Wednesday posted a copy of what appears to be an email from organisers of a press conference at the Flemish Parliament.

"Banned from the Hofmeyr press conference in a meeting room at the Flemish Parliament. Their excuse: Someone told them I am going to cause trouble there. The real reason: Hofmeyr does not want to answer critical question from me. Was he complaining that he is being kicked out by the venue in The Hague? Double standards the cowards," he wrote on Facebook.

Hofmeyr has yet to comment on the banning, only taking to his public Facebook page yesterday to address the cancellation of his appearance at the restaurant.
