Olympic gold medalist Chad le Clos launched the Le Clos Foundation on Thursday to promote and develop swimming in South Africa.

The foundation is partnering with the aQuelle Midmar Mile to raise money for the sport.

“I am extremely excited to announce the launch of my foundation with [the] Midmar Mile, as both have such a major role to play in our sport,” Le Clos said.

Durban-based Le Clos, a four-time Olympic medalist and the most successful Commonwealth Games swimmer of all time with 17 medals, was “looking to build a future around his global success”, a statement announcing the foundation said.

Foundation CEO Julian Taylor said: “He [Le Clos] is a role model and hands-on inspiration, now he is raising funds to ensure that he keeps the kids swimming.”

The Foundation will release more details about fundraising events and its programmes in the buildup to the Midmar Mile, which takes place on February 9 and 10 next year.
