South African stars Tyla, Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo brought the magic of Mzansi to last night’s 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York.
The show marked the lingerie brand’s highly-anticipated return to the runway after a six-year hiatus. Tyla joined global icon Cher and K-pop star Lisa of Blackpink to headline a dazzling performance in celebration of women around the world.
At the pink carpet pre-show hosted by model Olivia Culpo and social media personality Tefi Pessoa, Tyla rocked a hot pink asymmetrical dramatic cut out dress with crystals by designer Salih Balta, which bared her midriff and featured a floor-length train and thigh-high slit paired with pale pink crystal wraparound sandals and matching diamond choker necklace and rings.
Her hair was styled in a romantic loose updo, with soft curls and gentle highlights framing her face. Makeup for the multi-award-winning singer was highlighted by a smokey eye, mauve lip liner and her characteristic slashed signature brow.
“This look is giving 2000s cute, pretty, you know, the pink for Victoria’s Secret,” the 22-year-old “princess of popiano” said on the pink carpet at the label’s New York flagship store.
“I’m going to be performing Push 2 Start for the first time, my new banger of a track, so stay tuned.”
When asked about her favourite Victoria’s Secret angels, Tyla said: “Obviously I’m going to say Candice (Swanepoel) as she’s South African. I also love Jasmine (Tookes) and all the different angels and wings.”
Featuring a knockout medley performance of Push 2 Start from her self-titled deluxe album, followed by her hit song Water, the Johannesburg-born megastar mesmerised the audience with her powerful vocals, wearing a white, baby blue, gold and crystal fringed push up lingerie set with giant white feather heart-shaped angel wings.
Supermodels, including fellow South African Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid sashayed across the runway wearing the brand’s latest designs.
Swanepoel, 35, modelled outfits ranging from a sparkly bra and angel wings in blush, which spelled “Victoria’s Secret” in cursive lettering, to a fire-engine red lace set with matching flounced wings in the shape of a flower.
The Mooi River-born beauty walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2007. Three years later she was selected as a Victoria’s Secret Angel and was chosen to wear the famous “Fantasy Bra” at the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show which, along with its matching belt, featured a 52-carat ruby surrounded by 4,200 precious gems, including yellow sapphires and rare diamonds.
Prinsloo, 36, born in Vanderbijlpark, was discovered when she was 18 years old by a modelling scout while she was on holiday with her grandparents in Cape Town.
She made her return to the Victoria’s Secret runway after becoming an Angel in 2009 and has walked in 10 shows and many campaigns. The age-defying mother of three and wife of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine modelled a slinky black Victoria’s Secret dress with a thigh-high slit and giant silver chrome mirror wings.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was attended by top celebrities, including Tyga, Queen Latifah, Madison Bailey, LaQuan Smith, Kate Moss and Angel Reese.
