Two men allegedly found in possession of explosives were arrested in Khayelitsha on Friday, said Cape Town police.

The pair drew the attention of the police after they were seen driving a vehicle with broken canopy windows, said Lt-Col Andre Traut.

"Immediate instinct led to an observation of the suspects which later resulted in them being pulled over and apprehended," said Traut.

"Their vehicle was searched and six explosive sticks, five detonators and a signal jamming device were found in their possession."

It was unclear where the two had found or intended to use the explosives and signal jammer.

"The two suspects aged 33 and 38 are due to make a court appearance in Khayelitsha on Monday," said Traut.
