A 66-year-old Eastern Cape woman bit off a piece of the tongue of her alleged rapist.

Eastern Cape police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the victim was asleep alone on Friday night at her home in Sigangala Location in Mnyameni Village in the Centane area near King William’s Town when she was awakened by a knock at the door.

But before she could respond‚ the suspect pushed the door open.

“The 24-year-old suspect went to the bed of the victim and kissed her. The brave 66-year-old woman fought back and in the process of the struggle she bit off the piece of the suspect’s tongue.

“The suspect eventually overpowered the victim and raped her although his piece of tongue had been bitten off. He later ran through the open door.

“The victim kept the piece of tongue and handed it over to Centane Police as exhibit. The suspect was traced and arrested on Saturday. Police also noticed that his tongue had been bitten‚” Capt Manatha said.

He added that the suspect has been charged with rape and would appear before the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
