South Africa’s population now stands at 55.7 million

The population of South Africa has increased by over 3 million people from 51.8 million in 2011 to 55.7 million. Gauteng is the province with the highest number of people at 13.4 million.The economic hub is followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 11 million inhabitants‚ the Eastern Cape with 7 million and Western Cape with 7 million.With a population of only 1.2 million‚ Northern Cape remains the province with the lowest number of people.Since the last census in 2011‚ the number of households in the country has increased from 14.5 million to 16.9 million in 2016. About 58.7% of the households are headed by males.This information is contained in the Community Survey 2016 released by Statistics SA on Thursday...
