The new Citroen C1 hopes to cause a stir in the compact A-segment. On sale in SA now, there are two derivatives available. First up is the C1 Feel followed by the top-tier C1 Airscape which comes with a retractable fabric roof.  Power comes from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox, producing 60kW and 116Nm.

The C1 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds with a top speed of 170 km/h. Service intervals are every 20 000 km. Fuel economy, meanwhile, is a claimed at 4.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

Cargo capacity has increased to196 litres, moving up from 139 litres while a 50/50 split for the rear seats allows the boot capacity to increase to some 780 litres when seats are folded.

Both models feature hill-start assist, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBA (Emergency Brake Assist), ESC (Electronic Speed Control), six airbags, pre-tensioning seatbelts and IsoFix mounting points.

The zippy newcomer promises to set high standards for road handling and ride comfort. A new electrically-assisted rack and pinion delivers precise and accurate steering, according to Citroen.  The New Citroen C1 is available in five exterior colours (Gallium Grey, Lipizzan White, Smalt Blue, Scarlet Red and Sunrise Red).

Citroen have announced that an entry-level model (with a smaller engine) — priced from R139 990 — will be added in 2015.
