Japanese luxury carmaker Infiniti will reveal its competitor to the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class this September. The automaker released a first teaser image of its new offering, set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In terms of styling, it seems typically Infiniti – with aesthetics that are bound to divide opinion. They bill it as an “active compact” which explains why it might seem to have a slightly higher ground clearance and a pseudo rugged air about it, compared to the established peers. Infiniti says the Q30 breaks the conventional mould of its segment.

As with the rest of the Infiniti range, the USP here is certainly individuality. According to the manufacturer, it will offer a sporting drive. This is pretty important if it is serious about its aims to compete with the likes of BMW and Audi. No details around powertrains and platforms have been shared yet.

The Q30 was developed in Europe and will be built in Sunderland, in the United Kingdom. There is no word yet on whether it is in the product plan for South Africa.
