The new and proudly South African-built Navara single cab is now available at Nissan dealerships across the country. Following on from the successful launch of the facelifted Navara double cab in June, the rugged single cab line-up is a proper workhorse designed to meet the commercial needs of small businesses in both SA and Sub-Saharan Africa.

“The single cab comes with an impressive list of best-in-class features that make it the perfect partner to get the job done right,” says Stefan Haasbroek, marketing director at Nissan SA. “It also offers high levels of safety and security from entry grades, including driver and passenger airbags as well as ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution.”

The entry-level XE model is powered exclusively by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making a respectable 118kW and 233Nm worth of torque. Two diesel models — both equipped with Nissan's proven 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel motor — are also on offer. In the XE and SE derivatives this unit is tuned to produce 120kW and 403Nm while in the flagship LE model it's been tweaked to deliver a more muscular 140kW and 450Nm.

All new Nissan Navara single cabs — petrol and diesel — are paired exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox that sends power direct to the rear wheels, while models above the entry-level XE grade are fitted with an electronic differential lock. Diesel-powered SE and LE variants are also available with all-wheel drive for those seeking a little extra traction. Riding on 16-inch steel wheels across the board, the Navara single cab sports a reinforced body and suspension system that offers a top-class load capacity of up to 1,144kg.

While entry-level XE variants are understandably utilitarian, you can still look forward to niceties such as manual air conditioning and a 12-volt power outlet. Move up to the SE grade and you can expect a more plush cabin with the addition of electric windows, a USB port, remote central locking, an extra 12-volt power outlet plus a Nissan DIN audio system that offers full Bluetooth connectivity. Satellite steering wheel controls are also standard. Meanwhile, the range-topping LE model adds an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible), a reverse camera and cruise control.
