If you grew up in the 80s or 90s then you'll remember the Honda Prelude: a compact two-door coupé offering sporty performance at an attainable price. Discontinued in 2001 the Prelude nameplate has been reborn at the Japan Mobility Show as an electric concept car.

The Japanese carmaker says the Prelude Concept will take the "joy of driving" into the full-fledged electrified future. Though Honda doesn't provide much information about what might be powering the vehicle, photos suggest it is more or less production ready with none of the fanciful design features so typical of conceptual show cars. Instead you get a sleek yet conventional coupé silhouette underscored by 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 245/35 Continental SportContact 6 tyres. Behind them lurk blue Brembo brake calipers.

Speaking in Tokyo on Wednesday, Honda president and CEO Toshihiro Mibe said: "The Prelude Concept is a sports model that will offer exhilarating experience that makes you want to keep going forever and extraordinary excitement you never felt before."

He said Honda was progressing with development and expectations should be kept high.
