Political commentator Xolela Mangcu predicts that Deputy Police Minister Fikile Mbalula will be South Africa’s next President.
Mangcu told a Dispatch Dialogue presentation in East London on Wednesday: “Who in the ANC hierarchy is now senior?
“Mbalula will be the president of the ANC and the country in 2017 – if not, in 2022.”
Mangcu said the real battle for the ANC presidency would take place in 2017, not in two years’ time as some people thought.
Already Mbalula is being touted for the position of ANC secretary-general – currently held by SACP national chairperson Gwede Mantashe, who some want to be retained in 2012.
Mangcu also predicted that President Jacob Zuma and his deputy Kgalema Motlanthe would serve second terms
