A former Limpopo school principal accused of raping a 15-year-old pupil has been released on R5‚000 bail by the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court.

The 59-year-old from Lorraine Village in Sekororo outside Tzaneen is expected back in court on August 23. According to police reports‚ the accused handed himself over to the authorities after hearing that police were looking for him in connection with the teenager’s rape.

He made his first court appearance on Monday‚ however the court made a ruling on his bail application on Thursday.

On Wednesday the investigating officer told the court that the man had allegedly tricked the girl into going to his home by telling her that his wife wanted to meet the pupil.

The 59-year-old‚ who is the girl's Sepedi teacher‚ apparently told her that his wife was eager to meet the pupil because she was performing extremely well in class.

The court also heard that the man‚ who previously retired as a principal of a private school in NkowaNkowa‚ decided to go back and teach Sepedi due to his love for the profession.

The investigating officer said according to the pupil‚ when they arrived at his home the man called her into the bedroom where he proceeded to undress and rape her.

The court is still waiting to get a profile on the suspect as well as DNA results.
