Fifteen people were treated for mild smoke inhalation on Friday evening when a fire broke out in a block of flats in Duncanville‚ south of Johannesburg.
“Fire services began to battle the blaze while paramedics assessed the residents. Upon assessment‚ paramedics discovered that 15 patients had suffered from mild smoke inhalation.
“Paramedics treated the patients on scene‚ providing them with medical oxygen. Once treated‚ the patients declined transportation to a hospital.
“Fire services were able to extinguish the blaze after a short time‚” said Meiring.
The cause of the fire was not yet known‚ he added.
