Online retailer Takealot.com has been experiencing difficulties with processing credit card payments due to the record number of purchases.

Takealot.com kicked off its Black Friday deals at midnight, with significant volumes causing the site to malfunction.

“The failure to process transactions by the credit card payment provider unfortunately resulted in some of our customers experiencing difficulty processing credit card payments,” the online store said in a statement.

Takealot.com has encouraged customers to use alternative paying methods, such as EFT via iPay and Payfast.

“Our team is working through all affected transactions, manually, processing orders where payments were made but did not reflect on our site.”

This is the second year that Takealot.com has experienced malfunctions on Black Friday.

Some took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the functioning of the website.
