Taxi protest cleared in Joburg CBD, say cops
A taxi protest that left traffic in the Johannesburg CBD heavily backed up on Monday afternoon has been cleared.
Johannesburg's metro police confirmed that it was "monitoring the situation", which started shortly after midday.
They said Pixley ka Isaka Seme Street and its intersecting streets had been severely affected and urged motorists to "exercise caution" in the area or to use alternative routes.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the taxi associations were protesting over routes.
Minnaar later confirmed that the traffic situation had returned to normal after the taxi associations cleared the road around 2.30pm.
