Police are on the hunt for two suspects who escaped from custody at the Newlands Magistrate's Court in Durban on Tuesday. 

KZN police spokesperson Capt Nqobile Gwala said the accused were appearing on charges of theft. 

"Sphelele Sikhakhane, 25, and Sihle Mthethwa, 28, were arrested for theft of a truck wheel at Sea Cow Lake on March 1.

"A case of escaping from lawful custody is being investigated by Newlands East SAPS after they escaped while in court at 2.45pm."

The circumstances surrounding the escape are unknown.
