An album full of photographs of former US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice has been discovered by rebels exploring Muammer Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound, giving credence to claims that the ousted Libyan dictator had a raging crush on her.

MSNBC.com reports that the album, filled with page after page of pictures of Rice, was found on Wednesday along with items such as a golden bust of Gaddafi, his peaked military hat and a gold mermaid couch owned by his daughter Aisha.

Rice visited Tripoli in 2008 - the first trip in 50 years to the erstwhile enemy state by a top US official - when relations between Gaddafi and the West had thawed briefly.

According to MSNBC, Gaddafi spoke of Rice in glowing terms when he gave an interview to Al-Jazeera television in 2007.

''I support my darling black African woman,'' he said.

''I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders . Leezza, Leezza, Leezza . I love her very much.

"I admire her and I'm proud of her because she's a black woman of African origin.''
