Mandela and Tutu history to be digitised
Archived documents on the "life and times" of former president Nelson Mandela will soon be available on Google, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said.
“We want to make this history available to audiences throughout the world free of charge,” Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Achmat Dangor said at a press briefing with Google in Houghton, Johannesburg.
Documents about the life of Mandela, including those handwritten by him would be digitised and available online.
They would include most of the letters he wrote while he was in prison, the notes he took in some of the ANC meetings after his release and conversations he had had with various people.
Dangor said the Foundation hoped nobody would download the information and decide to sell it.
Google SA head Luke Mckend said Google was “incredibly privileged” to be part of this project.
“We hope South Africans and the world would be excited about this as we are.”
