Swiss prosecutors say they have charged a father and his two sons with breaking arms export laws by aiding an international nuclear smuggling ring that supplied Libya's atomic weapons program.

The federal prosecutors office in Bern says Urs Tinner, his brother Marco and their father Friedrich have acknowledged breaking Switzerland's laws banning the export of certain arms.

Prosecutors said in a statement Tuesday that they have agreed a shortened procedure with the defendants that could ensure politically sensitive aspects of the investigation aren't discussed in court.

Urs Tinner claimed in a 2009 interview with Swiss TV station SF1 that he tipped off U.S. intelligence about a delivery of centrifuge parts meant for Libya's nuclear weapons program
