Chinese duo jailed over R5.7m abalone operation

Two Chinese men have been jailed for a year after being found with poached abalone and equipment worth R5.7-million. Jiam Liang Hong‚ 26‚ and Guohui-Li‚ 35‚ were found guilty of contravening the Marine Living Resource Act. They were arrested earlier in May at Klein Eike Farm‚ Genadendal‚ in the Overberg‚ and their sentences at Bellville Regional Court on Monday followed a plea bargain.
