Rhino horn skewers Cape Town man with a four-year jail sentence

A man who had a rhino horn worth R150 000 in his Cape Town home faces four years in jail.Ishmael Amardien‚ 42‚ of Grassy Park‚ was sentenced on Friday at the Wynberg Regional Court after being convicted of contravening the Nature Conservative Ordinance Act.Hawks spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha said: "A search and seizure sting operation (in) January by the Hawks’ organised crime endangered species investigations unit resulted in the recovery of one 2kg rhino horn with an estimated street value of R150 000."Amardien‚ who had previous unrelated convictions‚ has been given the option of paying a R200 000 fine.
