Immune system boffins aim their expertise at Cape Town
Cape Town will host immune system experts from across the world after seeing off rival bids from London‚ Paris‚ Toronto and Mexico City. The 2022 International Congress on Immunology will bring an estimated 6‚000 delegates to Cape Town International Convention Centre.South African Immunology Society president Clive Gray‚ who led the bid team with Faith Osier‚ secretary-general of the Federation of African Immunology Societies‚ said having landed the event‚ the task was “to build a pre-conference legacy over the next six years by galvanising the best minds on the continent and growing new minds to become part of the global immunology community”.He added: “In 2022‚ we want to bring the world’s best and most exciting immunologists to Cape Town and task them to put their minds to the infectious disease burden in Africa and translate immunology to human health.”Tim Harris‚ CEO of Wesgro — the official tourism‚ trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape — said the bid win “enhances Cape Town and the Western’s Cape appeal as a business events destination and will be a big boost for our local knowledge economy”.CTICC CEO Julie-May Ellingson praised what she said was an “enormous team effort” between the CTICC‚ Cape Town and Western Cape Convention Bureau in securing the congress...
