The Fuel Retailers’ Association (FRA) says Gauteng’s fuel shortages are set to get worse as the province’s depots remain at a standstill.

FRA boss Reggie Sibiya says: “We’re concerned that we will be entering day four of the strike on Thursday with serious problems.”

Sibiya says the number of petrol stations running dry in Gauteng is on the increase due to the inactivity at the Alrode, Langlaagte and Waltloo depots.

He says the Western Cape remains largely unaffected while there are some problems in KwaZulu-Natal.

Sibiya says Limpopo will face a serious fuel shortage soon, if the strike continues.

Sibiya says the Energy and Labour departments have promised to intervene which will hopefully “limit the impact of the situation.”

Sibiya also says the National Petroleum Employers’ Association has called unions to discussions in the hope of ending the strike.
