A matric pupil was arrested after a classmate was shot dead at Shammah College in Ka-Mhlushwa, near Malelane, Mpumalanga.

Lieutenant-Colonel Leonard Hlathi said the 19-year-old pupil allegedly shot his classmate after an argument during a school camp on Sunday. The 18-year-old later died in hospital.

The suspect was arrested on Monday and charged with murder and possession of an illegal firearm. He was scheduled to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate's Court late yesterday.

The firearm was reported missing in Nelspruit in 1998. Police are investigating how the pupil got hold of the weapon.
