The court case of an ANC Youth League member who allegedly hit a journalist over the head with a brick was postponed by the Polokwane Magistrate's Court, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.
The case was postponed to January 11, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
Thirty-year-old Clifford Mohloana, who allegedly assaulted Limpopo-based freelance journalist Chester Makana, handed himself over to police on Sunday after learning that police were looking for him.
Makana was hit with a brick when he went to investigate allegations of duplicate voting tags being printed at a photocopying shop, shortly before delegates at the provincial elective conference picked their top five leaders.
He said two men stormed out of the shop, grabbed his camera and destroyed his memory card before chasing him. He then went to a police station to open a case against his attackers.
Makana said he was feeling better on Tuesday, after collapsing as he and other journalists interviewed newly elected provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane, on the sidelines of the conference at the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus near Polokwane.
Makana, whose bruised head was evidence of the attack, was attended to by paramedics who then rushed him to a local hospital.
He said he had suffered from migraine headaches since the attack, which intensified on Monday just before he collapsed.
In an editorial published on Wednesday, the Sowetan newspaper compared the attack to attacks on journalists that took place during apartheid.
"It is ironic that in our democratic era, where we are the proud beneficiaries of one of the world's most enlightened and liberal constitutions, journalists continue to be attacked," read the article.
The newspaper said: "We hope justice takes its course."
