The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa announced yesterday that Mercedes-Benz SA had discontinued participation in the South African automotive industry's domestic new vehicle sales and export statistics.
The withdrawal came as a result of a global directive by German parent company Daimler AG.
Naamsa understands the directive is precautionary in nature and is related to the European Union Competition Commission investigation into alleged anti-competitive practices by various truck manufacturers.
The association said it hoped Mercedes-Benz's discontinuation would be temporary.
RGT Smart, the third service provider in the collation of domestic new vehicle sales and exports, said it was committed to resolving the situation as soon as possible.
