Performance in mathematics and physical science must improve to generate the workforce needed to develop the country and address socio-economic problems, Gauteng's finance MEC said on Wednesday.
"Our country needs engineers, doctors, scientists and economists. These subjects could assist you to study towards becoming one of these professionals," Mandla Nkomfe said in a statement.
He was speaking to pupils at the Dan Kutumela Secondary School in Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit, where he handed out uniforms to children from poor families.
"As the province we are here to help you... Whenever you need help, cry out via your teachers and principals. Good luck and have a good year."
