Malegapuru Makgoba to oversee university transformation

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) vice-chancellor Malegapuru Makgoba has been appointed to chair the ministerial oversight committee on transformation in South African public universities, it was announced on Thursday.

"I wish to congratulate Professor Makgoba on his appointment at a critical juncture of our democratic dispensation," UKZN council chairwoman Phumla Mnganga said in a statement.

The committee aims to promote, implement and monitor transformation in tertiary education.

"I believe that UKZN under Professor Makgoba's leadership is recognised as the most transformed university in the country," she said.

"Through this committee, his vast experience and vision for a transformed society built on excellence will enrich and empower higher education in the future."
