In a city in which most streets are named after struggle heroes, Pretoria has an area whose roads celebrate soccer clubs of the 1990s.

In Nelmapius Extension 3, the longest street is named after Kaizer Chiefs, another is Orlando Pirates and another Moroka Swallows.

One of the shortest streets is Mamelodi Sundowns and this does not sit well with 50-year-old Robert Maswanganyi, an avid Sundowns fan.

He lives in Colts Street, named after a former Cape Town team.

"I am very happy with the names but Sundowns is just too short."

Mckay Sello, 62, who lives in Strikers Street, says he would be happier living in Kaizer Chiefs Street.

"I would have loved to live in a street named after my team."

Molapi Mahlatji, 74, says the names are reminders of the good old days.

"These are the clubs that formed the PSL. People around here love soccer. It brings neighbours together."

Other streets include Qwa Qwa Stars, Ria Stars, Real Rovers, Bafana, Celtic, Blackburn, African Wanderers and Costa do Sol.
