Gauteng treasury has been accused of wasting R4.6-million on law firms to discipline a senior manager, who was later cleared and has returned to his post.
Jack Bloom, DA Gauteng's caucus leader, said the money was wasted during internal disciplinary proceedings against finance chief director Alfred Khana following his suspension in September 2010.
He returned to work last month - almost three years after he was suspended.
Khana was paid over R1-million while sitting at home, Bloom said.
He said three legal firms were hired to conduct his disciplinary hearing.
"How could so much money be spent on a single disciplinary hearing that lasted more than two years and resulted in an acquittal? This fiasco was a complete waste of money," he said.
