Police acting on a tip-off have discovered a six-hectare dagga plantation in northern KwaZulu-Natal, a spokesman said on Friday.

Captain Thulane Zwane said the field was discovered in the Mfemfeni area of Nomgoma on Thursday.

"The Nongoma [SA Police Station] crack team members could not believe their eyes when they saw about six hectares of dagga fields in their area."

He said some of the plants were reported to be as high as two metres.

No arrests had been made and Thulane could only guess at the street value.

"It could be more than millions," he said.
