Multiaward-winning singer Zonke Dikana yesterday cancelled a series of upcoming shows because of the death of her elder sister, Busi, at the weekend.

The Feelings singer was due in Durban on Saturday to headline the 15th African Renaissance festival and conference, together with Mafikizolo and Professor, in celebration of Africa Day at the ICC.

She was then due to fly to Johannesburg to launch the Music in the Gardens series at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens on Sunday.

From then on it would have been rehearsals for the recording of her Give and Take Live DVD at the Lyric Theatre.

Tickets for the July5 DVD recording sold out within a week of going on sale.

No new date has been announced for the Music in the Gardens show.

Sharlene Versveld, spokesman for the African Renaissance concert, said yesterday that another Afro-soul star, Lira, had stepped in for Saturday night.

Versveld said: "Zonke is disappointed to have to withdraw but has to put her family ahead of her professional commitments at this difficult time.

"She is shattered at unexpectedly losing her sister, Busisiwe, on Saturday evening."
