There was an unexpected star attraction at last night's party in Sandton, Johannesburg, at which the nominees for the Gauteng Sports Awards were announced.

US rapper Lil Mama made a surprise appearance alongside actor Lamman Ruckus.

Along with US crooner Kenny Lattimore, actor Lamman Rucker, of Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married, and political commentator and author Jeff Johnson, they are in South Africa to empower teenagers ahead of Youth Day, as part of their international tour.

The tour, called iLEAD (inspiration, leadership, education, aspiration, determination), is intended to reach up to 1 000 pupils, teachers and parents.

Former Miss SA Bokang Montjane, DJs Oskido, Mahoota, Christos, Pepsi and Vinny da Vinci, and TV presenter Thami Ngubeni, were roped in as the local ambassadors of the eight-day programme.

The events begin with a launch at The Venue at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg today.

iLEAD then visits Pretoria, Soweto and Durban.
