BREAKTHROUGH

US SCIENTISTS have found a way to ''switch off" the chromosome that causes Down's Syndrome. In a report published in the journal Nature, researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School said they have stopped the condition - caused by an extra chromosome - from developing in human cells in a laboratory.

NUTRITION BITE

NEW research suggests Omega-3 fatty acids are not as good for you as often made out to be. A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute said oils found in fish such as salmon, trout and tuna elevate the risk of prostate cancer.

ONE THING FOR YOUR HEALTH

A SPANISH study of more than 7000 people over the age of 50 found that those who ate nuts more than three times a week were at a lower risk of cancer and heart disease.

BIZARRE

HEART surgery patients' recovery is quicker during a full moon. This is according to a Rhode Island Hospital study, which found surgery resulted in a lower death rate when the moon is waning.
