The funeral of the South African killed in the Kenya terror attack, James Thomas, will go ahead as planned after his body arrived back in South Africa on Friday night.

Thomas, 57, dedicated his career to training unskilled people. He will be buried on Wednesday after a service at Bishops Diocesan College chapel in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

Thomas's family said on the weekend that it was relieved his remains were back home.

A postmortem conducted in Nairobi showed he did not suffer after being shot.

His son-in-law, Dr Scott Lee-Jones, said Thomas died of three gunshots and "likely died instantly".

Lee-Jones said the family hoped "this information would help James's amazing network of friends, family and colleagues to find closure".

He said: "Our hearts go out to the families of those who were victim to the intense fear and suffering that followed this initial spate of gunfire."

Family spokesman and Thomas's pastor and friend, Dave Medlum, tweeted yesterday: "Really hard to take in that there will never be another Sunday with James to cheer me on, encourage me and do something useful and creative." See Page 10
