Gauteng schools will be ready for teaching on Wednesday.
Gauteng education MEC Barbara Creecy made the promise at Tembisa's Masighakaze Secondary School, on the East Rand, while taking part in a school clean-up campaign.
Creecy said an important aspect of the school readiness campaign was to ensure a clean environment, which included toilets, classrooms and offices.
Contractors have been appointed to repair toilets at 60 schools across Gauteng ahead of this week's opening.
Out of the 2million pupils in school this year, 1.8million will be at public schools, Creecy said.
"Gauteng falls within the national norms and standards in terms of quality of teaching, and there are enough teachers."
