The case against Nico Henning, the alleged mastermind in the murder of his wife, Chanelle, is likely to be transferred to the high court.

Chanelle was gunned down after dropping off the couple's son at a Pretoria nursery school in 2011.

Henning, a multimillionaire, is charged with murder and conspiracy to murder his wife.

He handed himself in at the Villieria, Pretoria, police station last month after his close friend, Andre Gouws, implicated him in what is alleged to have been a contract killing.

Henning is out on R10-million bail, R300000 of which he paid in cash last year. He offered surety for the remaining R9.7-million this month in the form of title deeds to two houses with a combined value of R10-million.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked the state to postpone the case until June 3 for further investigation, and to enable the prosecution to complete its indictment of Henning, before moving the case to the high court.

Gouws and former Nigerian Olympic athlete Ambrose Monye were convicted in November for their role in Chanelle's murder.

Gerhardus du Plessis and Willem Pieterse were also convicted of the crime. They are serving 18-year jail sentences.

Late last year, Gouws claimed that Henning masterminded the killing. Gouws said the murder was sparked by a custody battle over the couple's son.
