Three men have been arrested for robbing a tavern in Willowvale, near Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The man, aged 23, 34 and 42, were arrested on Sunday afternoon, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

The men pointed a pistol at the tavern owner, 33, and demanded money from her, Manatha said.

They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a Toyota bakkie. No shots were fired.

The owner gave the police a description of the vehicle and the men were apprehended on the road to Willowvale.

An unlicensed firearm with seven rounds of ammunition and a firearm with five rounds of ammunition were seized. Money and tobacco were recovered.

The Toyota bakkie was also recovered.

The men would appear in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
