Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee is the sexiest man in South Africa, according to Cosmopolitan magazine and its readers.

We are not saying the 33-year-old's way with words won him the votes, but when a man's response to whether there's a special woman in his life is, ''It's a three-way tie at the moment between my mom, my sis and my newborn niece", which woman wouldn't swoon?

Boynton-Lee, a drama and TV journalism alumnus of Rhodes University, was crowned the hunkiest of them all at a party at Room Five in Rivonia Boulevard, northern Johannesburg, last night.

It was the culmination of a voting process driven by readers to decide who they thought was the sexiest of the 12 hunks in the magazine's Sexiest Men 2014 calendar.

The finalists were Boynton-Lee (January), Ntsolo Setlaba (February), Steven Michelsen (March), Mias van der Westhuizen (April), Ryan Botha (May), Bongani Mahlangu (June), Sean Sanders (July), AKA (August), Lunga Shabalala (September), Brennan Wright (October), Dale Horne (November) and Lehasa Moloi (December).

Last night's event was like a stud-filled locker room, with the men showing off their biceps and wearing only Guess underwear and jeans. Excitable women and gay men peered at them greedily.

The dress code was sexy casual.

Amid the screaming and giggling, guests were shown behind-the-scenes footage from the calendar shoot (the Cosmo Sexiest Man calendar has become an institution for South Africa to showcase its talent).

Hordes of females shouted themselves hoarse as the contestants paraded on stage and answered questions posed by MC Bonang Matheba, who is not lacking in the beauty stakes herself.

Last year, actor and model Masego "Maps" Maponya won the title - and the R10000 prize money that goes with it.

The win helped put him in the limelight. Later last year he became the South African face of international scent Joop Homme.
